Mummy Professors

Gerald Conlogue is a professor of Diagnostic Imaging at Quinnipiac University.  For forty years his research interests have focused on application of medical imaging techniques to non-medical areas, such as art conservation, wildlife management, archaeology, and anthropology.   He has published extensively on the radiology and imaging of bones, skeletal remains and mummies.

Ronald Beckett is a professor of Respiratory Care and Co-Director, along with Conlogue, of the Bioanthropology Research Institute at Quinnipiac University.  He is a Fellow in the American Association for Respiratory Care. Over the last decade, he has advanced the application of endoscopic techniques in the fields of anthropology and archaeology through active research and numerous professional publications and presentations.

In 1998, Beckett and Conlogue founded the Bioanthropology Research Institute at the University. Beckett's and Conlogue's work with mummified remains led to appearances in several Discovery and Learning Channel productions in 2000.  From 2001 to 2003 the duo co-hosted the "Mummy Road Show" on the National Geographic Channel.  During the series, they traveled to South America, Europe, and Asia employing imaging techniques to reveal clues to tell each mummy's life story.   In 2005, they published "Mummy Dearest," a behind the scenes look and in depth account of their experiences producing the series.  In 2004 and again in 2007 Beckett and Conlogue presented several papers at the prestigious World Congress on Mummy Studies.
