"Connecticut Line"

1776 is a year that every American knows as well as their own birth year. It was the birth of this nation. We celebrate it every year on July 4th. We celebrate the end result but how often do we actually celebrate the men who made this happen. Few, if any, were trained soldiers. There were no formal armed services in the 1700s. These men were the farmers, the blacksmiths, the doctors, the fathers, the sons, the next door neighbors and so on that made up this country’s army.

Join The Durham Fair and the Discovery Center in welcoming the "Connecticut Line", the Living History/Color Guard Unit of the Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). The Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (CTSSAR) was organized on April 2, 1889 as a membership organization of men whose lineal ancestors supported the Patriot cause during the War for Independence. The private, non-profit organization is a society of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and its purposes, as outlined in its constitution, are patriotic, educational, and historical. An all-volunteer organization, the CTSSAR takes its responsibility as a guardian and interpreter of history seriously.

Visit their authentic encampment at the south end of the Discovery Tent at Canfield Lane. Each day at noon the guard will muster and parade from their encampment to the bottom of Canfield Lane and back. On Sunday, September 28, at 9:00am, (immediately following the morning church services) join us on the town green to celebrate those Durham men whose names are memorialized on the monument on the green. If you are a direct descendent of any of these men, please call the Durham Fair office at (860) 349-9495 and leave a message with your phone number for Sue Cipriani. Then join us on Sunday morning and stand in your ancestor’s place as we call off the honor roll.
